Privacy Policy

Our Commitment to Privacy

The LSU System is committed to maintaining the privacy and security of any collected personal information. The Privacy Policy addresses the collection, use, and dissemination of personal information by the System. It is subject to change over time as technologies continue to develop and evolve; however, changes in technology do not affect the System’s commitment to privacy.

This Policy applies to all information digitally collected by or submitted to the LSU System—information is collected automatically through website data and through voluntary submission through services such as web forms and emails.

By using or accessing our website, you confirm your agreement to the terms and conditions outlined within this Policy and consent to the processing of personal information as set forth in this Policy.

Information Collection

Automatic Collection

If a user has not taken specific steps to anonymize their personal web traffic (e.g. apply browser add-ons that disable the collection of data for analytical purposes), LSU System websites may collect certain information automatically.
This information includes, but is not limited to:

  • User’s Internet protocol (IP) address
  • Internet service provider
  • Operating system
  • The time and date of the visit
  • Browser
  • The site from which the user visited
  • Cookie information (if applicable)

Any information collected automatically is not associated with any other information voluntarily provided to the LSU System unless the LSU System is required to do so by law.

Voluntary Submission

In order to provide information and/or services, the LSU System may request users to provide personal data, some of which may be personally identifiable information. Information such as name, date of birth, email address, etc. can be collected via voluntary submission of an email or web form to an entity of the LSU System.

Information Use & Security

Use

Automatically gathered website information is utilized to improve the understanding of how users leverage websites. Files used to track website activity—known as cookies—help determine how users navigate sites. This data is used for website evaluation, reports on website activity, and other services. Users have the right to refuse the use of cookies by implementing configurations on their browsers and devices; however, functionality may be impacted if configurations are implemented.

Information received through voluntary submission is only used to conduct official LSU System business. The LSU System may disseminate voluntarily submitted information to LSU System campuses and institutions, offices, and departments and third parties to the extent necessary in order to provide the requested services and/or information. The LSU System may also disseminate such information if required by applicable law-enforcement agencies.

The LSU System will not disclose any voluntarily submitted information for reasons other than those mentioned within this section without clear notice and opportunity to opt-out or otherwise prohibit such uses, and it will never sell or trade voluntarily submitted information to other entities unless a prior consent has been obtained and/or such information is being shared in response to a subpoena, court order, or legal process.

Security

The LSU System implements stringent security measures wherever possible to promote confidentiality, integrity, and availability of any information in its possession. LSU System websites that allow users to submit information voluntarily utilize encryption to prevent third parties from viewing the submitted data; however, in most cases, emails cannot leverage encryption to protect voluntarily submitted information. The LSU System does not recommend the use of email for submitting confidential and/or personal data. Users that submit unsolicited confidential and/or personal information via email must do so at their own risk.

While the security of user data is of the utmost importance to the LSU System, due to the nature of internet communications, no data transmission over the internet can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Any information transmitted to the LSU System by the user is done so at the user’s own risk. Once the information is received by the LSU System, the System will make every effort to ensure the security of data.

External Links

The LSU System website may contain links to external websites not owned or managed by the LSU System.  If a user navigates to external links, they will leave the LSU System website, and the LSU System is not responsible for the privacy practices or content of such websites.

Users are encouraged to review the applicable privacy policies and terms of use of all sites, including those of individual LSU institutions, prior to use.
